Activating DotNet 3.5 in Windows 8 offline

What is DotNet

Programmers produce software by combining their own source code with the .NET Framework and other libraries. The .NET Framework is intended to be used by most new applications created for the Windows platform. Microsoft also produces anintegrated development environment largely for .NET software called Visual Studio.

The love story between Windows 8 and DotNetFx 3.5

The .NET Framework 4.5 is included with Windows 8 and installed on your computer with the operating system. However, the .NET Framework 3.5 is not automatically installed with Windows 8. To run applications that require the .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 8, you must enable version 3.5 on your computer. 

Remember :

  • Use the .NET Framework 3.5 for applications built for versions 2.0 and 3.0 as well as 3.5.

  • Installing a Windows language pack on Windows 8 before installing the .NET Framework 3.5 will cause the .NET Framework 3.5 installation to fail. Install the .NET Framework 3.5 before installing any Windows language packs.

  • Windows CardSpace is not available with the .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 8.

Install Offline

  1. Boot windows 8.
  2. Insert the windows 8 DVD.
  3. Run cmd.exe as administrator.
  4. copy paste the below command in the console
dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /Source:G:sourcessxs /LimitAccess
  • Finally hit ‘Enter’

->G: is your DVD ROM drive

Double check and change the drive letter before hitting enter

Check the system after installation

In cmd.exe run

dism /online /get-features |more

and go down by hitting enter to confirm the DotNetFx 3.5 is enabledimage

How to run cmd.exe as Administrator

  1. Go to start window of Windows and get the global search window by pressing win+q and search for cmd
  2. You would get the result named ”Command Prompt”
  3. Right click on it and select “run as administrator” in foot bar

with drive letter change that’s it 🙂
